Our trip: Part I - a German wedding

We started out in Germany. It was cold, it was rainy, but we were there for one of my best friend's wedding. And we were there to party. And party, we did. Til the very last night, at 4:30 am (a mere 2 hours before our train to Berlin. Not pretty.)

What we love about German weddings:

the warm welcome

they go over three days

cake and coffee before dinner

champagne on tap

being treated like royalty for being out-of-town guests

reuniting with old friends,

and awesome new friends

a mid-lake ceremony

the wedding BBQ...

the beautiful tent

the drinks
the rock band (hello, Veit!)

{photo credit: Maxi}
prosecco and those hors d'oeuvres
the fresh air
crazy lights

the live opera singer
midnight fire show (scary but beautiful)
German speeches

and the most delicious white-chocolate icing wedding cake ever.

Next up: A night on Parc Allee, a Day in Berlin

A wedding and a birthday and a honeymoon (a year later)

- with my girls, photo by d + d -

That's what's going on right now.

A celebration of one of my besties' wedding in Germany. The same day will be my birthday, then some visiting with friends in Berlin, and a year-later-8-day-Italian honeymoon.

Ali, I love you and
happy wedding

Now here's a wedding

Speaking of tearful, I think it has a lot to do with this right here:

Behold, Davina + Daniel's wedding slideshow by the powerhouse known as Erin & Ben Chrisman. Mr. D and I had the great privilege of attending their 5-day wedding extravaganza in Mexico this past Spring, and a true extravaganza it was.

Seeing these pictures brings it all right back, in all of its raw emotion, love, wonder and pure blissful moments of unadulterated fun. And let's be honest, photos don't lie; what we see here is a beautiful union of two people who knew the best thing in their life was right in front of them. And grabbed it, fiercely, as they do in their everyday lives which such passion.

Kate's evening gown

The Duchess of Cambridge aka Kate Middleton looked beautiful on her wedding day. I especially liked her evening dress, also Sarah Burton for McQueen. Including the angora shrug. And bejeweled waist. And, if I'm being honest, her head free from that veil/tiara combo.

pretty pretty parisian countryside wedding

Although our wedding is in the past, I still find myself perusing what I like to refer to as WEDDING PORN. So many pretty pictures, original ideas, fluffy dresses and in the case of this particular wedding, delicious-looking foodstuff and very fashionable guests.

i also ended up ordering these:

speaking of which..

where on earth to wed?

such a difficult question that we have been humming and hawing over since the engagement.
we're looking at 200 guests (most of whom are his, might I add..), something cool, different, not too stuffy. we were thinking winter, but now we're leaning towards summer.
we've visited hotels (cheesy & depressing), halls (ultra cheesy & depressing), museums (too slick and not us), galleries (too small but somewhat us)..
and we just don't know! now we are considering synagogues, and vineyards.

any ideas in the montreal area?

engagement ring

A few people have asked me to post a picture of the ring the fiancé magically bought for me on that cold March day. Poor guy, he was acting so strangely that I just knew what he was up to - I sometimes wish I was harder to fool! Here is a rough shot, taken on a bus ride in Germany over a brilliantly funny book I was reading at the time, and that I strongly recommend: Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. Love that guy.
