SCAMMERS on Craigslist

This is a warning to any woman trying to sell her wedding dress on the Craigslist. For the second time, I have been contacted by a scammer with a long blah blah email. I immediately had a hunch but wrote back anyway, saying that she could by ALL MEANS come over and try on the dress.
Here was 'Melinda' 's reply:

Hello,

Thanks for your response. It's quite a lovely dress and i would love to buy it,i`ll like to have the wedding dress alone. This is my first thing am buying off craigslist.org

I really want to come see it and try it on but i cannot as i am out of town due to work and preparation for my wedding. I think i have seen enough pictures so far so i would love to buy it off from you as will be relying on your judgment.

My method of payment would be through a Certified Check since am not around and can not remit cash from here as this is coming impromptu. Please let me know the final asking price so i can make arrangements as i will handle the shipment myself and i will be sending my mover down to pick up the dress at your place.

Kindly provide me with your full name and mailing address to which the Certified check would be sent so we can wrap this up real quick as the wedding is just around the corner.
NB: I also want to inform you that there will be an excess amount of funds which you will forward to my mover (for shipment purposes).

Melinda.

And mine:

Hi Melinda,

No problem. However I do not have a permanent address and Canada Post is on strike. Therefore you can send your payment via Paypal.
I can lower the price to ***.
Unless of course you are a scammer, Melinda ;) In which case well I probably shouldn't let you know this but the authorities have been getting on to these scams and are beginning to track individuals down based on ISP addresses and making arrests for fraud. Just a note.
So let me know if Paypal works, and I will send you the address for paypal right away.

Thanks Melinda!!! And congrats on your upcoming wedding, so exciting Melinda!!!!

Now, if Melinda is a real person, I might feel a bit bad. But yeah, she's so not.

  2. Hi, I received the same exact email from a person named Tracy Chambers. I'm so happy you posted this email here. I just copied the first sentense of the email to google. And here it was.
Thank you. Now I know, it was a scam.

  3. I just received an oddly worded brief e-mail from a Tracy Chambers offering to buy my wedding dress. I did a search for the name and it brought me here. Not surprised, but I feel bad because I know there are people out there that won't know some of these people are scammers and will lose money and their items.
