SCAMMERS on Craigslist

This is a warning to any woman trying to sell her wedding dress on the Craigslist. For the second time, I have been contacted by a scammer with a long blah blah email. I immediately had a hunch but wrote back anyway, saying that she could by ALL MEANS come over and try on the dress.
Here was 'Melinda' 's reply:

Hello,

Thanks for your response. It's quite a lovely dress and i would love to buy it,i`ll like to have the wedding dress alone. This is my first thing am buying off craigslist.org

I really want to come see it and try it on but i cannot as i am out of town due to work and preparation for my wedding. I think i have seen enough pictures so far so i would love to buy it off from you as will be relying on your judgment.

My method of payment would be through a Certified Check since am not around and can not remit cash from here as this is coming impromptu. Please let me know the final asking price so i can make arrangements as i will handle the shipment myself and i will be sending my mover down to pick up the dress at your place.

Kindly provide me with your full name and mailing address to which the Certified check would be sent so we can wrap this up real quick as the wedding is just around the corner.
NB: I also want to inform you that there will be an excess amount of funds which you will forward to my mover (for shipment purposes).

Melinda.

And mine:

Hi Melinda,

No problem. However I do not have a permanent address and Canada Post is on strike.Therefore you can send your payment via Paypal.
I can lower the price to ***.
Unless of course you are a scammer, Melinda ;) In which case well I probably shouldn't let you know this but the authorities have been getting on to these scams and are beginning to track individuals down based on ISP addresses and making arrests for fraud. Just a note.
So let me know if Paypal works, and I will send you the address for paypal right away.

Thanks Melinda!!! And congrats on your upcoming wedding, so exciting Melinda!!!!

Now, if Melinda is a real person, I might feel a bit bad. But yeah, she's so not.

The best of Craigslist Part V

I've said it before, the Craigslist interactions are all about the customer service. Here are a few more little gems for ya.

M = me
C = Craigslist Customer

C: You know the chinese learning books you posted on craigslist the other day? I wondered if you thought they were too advanced for a beginner.
M: Yeah I know the ones. Well... they are learning books, beginner to advanced levels, as indicated in the ad, so yeah, at least half of them should work for you.
C: But you wrote you only are selling them as a package for 20$?
M: That's right. 300$+ worth of books for 20 bucks. Take it or leave it.
{There was more to this one, including 'well if I give you 20$ but just take the ones I want, blah blah blahhhhhhh....' but I will stop here.}

C: I'm interested in your black chair. Why are you selling it for only 5$?
M: Because we want to get rid of it fast.
C: But is there something wrong with it?
M: Nope. As pictured, it's had some wear paint-wise, but it remains a perfectly functional chair.
C: Yes I noticed that from the picture. I guess I wanted something that was newer-looking.
M: MmmmmK.

C: Were the brand new in box Hunter boots ever worn?
M: nope.
C: But were they tried on?
M: That they were, yes, in my house. But never worn on a foot for more than a few minutes other than to try.
C: Ah, I see.

Happy week-end! We're having dinner at Lawrence with friends tomorrow night (one of whom is about to pop!), I'm getting a pedicure with said about-to-pop friend and also finally spending my lingerie gift certificate that I received for my stagette last Spring! And of course, packing and shipping from our end-of-May Haramaki Love sale!

C: I wondered if the lamp pictured on the desk was also for sale? It's really nice and I've been searching for one like that for a long time.
M: Sorry, no. Just the desk.
C: Awwwww, tooooo bad for meeee!!!! (she seriously wrote this people) Do you know where I can get one?
M: No.

C: I was wondering how much the metal shelf weighed?
M: I can't get it on a scale, but it is very heavy. You will need two people to carry it.
C: So would you say it was heavier than 50 lbs?
M: Um, yes I would.
C: OK well in that case I don't want it.
M: No probs.

Happy week-end!

(And here are parts I, II & III for ya.)

C: Does your desk come with a chair?
M: 'Fraid not.

C: Is the coat a Men's coat or a Woman's?
M: Clearly the photo wasn't the best. Woman's.
C: And what color is it?
M: Didn't realise the photo was that bad. Black.

C: I'm interested in the little glass bottles you posted. Are they real glass or plastic?
M: Yep, they're glass.

More? Here's Part I and II for ya.
Happy week-end!!

C: Is the dog brush you advertised for sale? I'm not sure because I thought you weren't supposed to sell stuff in the Pets section.
M: As per the ad, it is on sale for 20$.

C: Are you going to disassemble the shelf before I pick it up?
M: We weren't planning on it, it's not that big so should fit in a vehicle no problem.
C: OK, then instead of 30$ I'll pay you 20$ for it then.
M: Sorry dude, it's sold. (assembled, at 30).

C: Does the Swatch watch still work?
M: Yes
C: Does it run fast or slow?
M: Seems pretty punctual.

C: Do you still have the Hatten side table for sale?
M: As of right now, yes. There have been other inquiries but the first to come pick it up gets it!
C: Really? I can't believe my luck! How many other people want it and when are they coming btw?

C: Could you hold the iPOD until i come from Toronto over Easter time?
M: No, sorry.

18.4.11

The best of Craigslist

I am a Craigslist fan. Some might even call me a fanatic.
People ask me about how I sell all the time.. and the truth is, there's no magic to it, just a whole lotta customer service.

Here are a few little gems I collected.
Enjoy.

C = Craigslist customer
M = Me

C: I work at 2000 McGill College, maybe you could deliver it to me at my office.
M: The 5$ Moulinex salad spinner, you mean? Sorry but no way.

C: Is your iPOD a real or a fake?
M: A real.

C: Is your Balenciaga a real or a fake?
M: A real. Here is the serial number: AJ67548332

C: But are you really sure it's a real?
M: I have the receipt, as indicated in my ad. Receipt indicates Serial #, plus big dollas spent. Yes, I am sure.

C: Oh ok, well I'm not sure about the color but I'll get back to you.
M:Yeah ok. See ya, and thanks for wasting my time.

There is more, but we'll leave it at that for today.
Happy Monday!!
